Why we price everything in bitcoin

Most apps treat bitcoin as something you watch in dollars. We treat it as money you spend. Why every Remiga screen starts with bitcoin, and why the dollar line is optional.

Open most bitcoin apps and the first thing you see is a dollar amount and a chart. That design tells you how to think about bitcoin, as something you own and watch. When we started Remiga in 2024, we wanted it to say something else. Bitcoin is money you use.

Bitcoin comes first. Every Remiga screen shows amounts in BTC. Your balance, the price at the till, the network fee and even the price of our metal cards. Bitcoin divides into a hundred million parts, and the smallest unit of bitcoin is called a sat, so even a coffee or a tiny fee has an exact price.

The dollar line is a guide, not the point. Next to each amount, in smaller type, Remiga shows a dollar reference, for example 0.00005 BTC ≈ $4.80. It helps while small BTC amounts are still new to you. Once you have a feel for them, turn on Bitcoin only in Settings and the dollar line disappears everywhere.

Fees before, not after. A fee you see after paying is a surprise. A fee you see before is a choice. That is why the full cost in BTC appears before the Pay button becomes active. If the number feels wrong, you close the screen and nothing happens.

The network fee, and nothing of ours. The network fee goes to the Bitcoin network and changes with how busy it is. Remiga takes no fee on payments at all, and our own line on every receipt says 0 BTC, so you always know who receives what.

What it changed. Pricing in bitcoin meant rebuilding the payment screen three times. The amount field had to work in BTC and dollars, the fee had to update while you type, and the rate had to stay fixed while the screen is open. It took longer than we planned, and we think it was worth it.

What it does not change. The dollar value of bitcoin can rise and fall, sometimes quickly. Pricing in bitcoin does not protect you from that, and we never suggest it will. What it gives you is a clear view of the money you are actually spending.

Our pricing page lists the one thing we charge for, our metal cards. Everything else is free.
