How the card balance works

What the card balance is, how it differs from your wallet, how to top it up and what card payments cost.

With a Remiga Gold, Platinum or Black card, you have two balances, and the app always shows which one you are looking at.

Your wallet is self-custody. The keys are on your phone, and nobody else can move that bitcoin. Lightning and on-chain payments come from your wallet.

Your card balance is held by Remiga. A card payment at a till has to be approved in a fraction of a second, which only works if the bitcoin is ready on our side. We keep card balances apart from our own funds.

To top up, tap Card and then Top up. Choose an amount in BTC and confirm. The bitcoin moves from your wallet to your card balance by Lightning in a few seconds. You can also set an automatic top up, for example back to 0.001 BTC whenever the balance drops below 0.0002 BTC.

When you pay with your card, we convert exactly the bitcoin you need at the moment of payment, with no conversion fee. The receipt in Activity shows the amount, the rate and the bitcoin you get back, from 0.5% on Gold to 1.5% on Black.

You can move your card balance back to your wallet at any time, free of charge, in the same screen.
